Let’s make super cute DIY paper Squishmallows at home! These are handmade paper squishies, inspired by Squishmallows. They are small, soft, and super satisfying to squish. We print them, cover them with clear tape so they last, and stuff them with lots of soft cotton for a real squishy feel.

Then we make paper blind bags, so every squishy becomes a surprise. Mix the bags, pick one and open it: great for a birthday, a party bag or a rainy afternoon of unboxing. Did you notice that one of the Squishmallows is Cubi? It is a “what if Cubi was a Squishmallow?” version, just for fun.

This is a fan-made, non-commercial project for personal use. Squishmallows characters and designs belong to the Squishmallows brand.

PART 1 OF 2

The squishy

  1. 1

    Cut out the squishy

Print page 1 or 2 in colour on A4 (on US Letter, choose “Fit to page”). Cut out one squishy along the outline. The front and the back are one piece, so keep them together.

  2. 2

    Fold it in half

Fold along the middle line, where the front and the back meet. The face is on one side and the back is on the other.

Folding the cat in half so the face and the back sit on top of each other
  3. 3

    Cover the front with tape

Lay strips of clear tape over the face. Let the tape go a little past the edges. Smooth it with your fingers so there are no bubbles.

  4. 4

    Trim the tape

Cut around the squishy, close to the outline. Go slowly around the ears.

  5. 5

    Seal the edges

Press the edges of the front and the back together with small pieces of tape, all the way around. Leave a small gap open at the top, between the ears, for the stuffing.

  6. 6

    Tape the back

Turn the squishy over and cover the back with clear tape too.

Trim the tape around the outline again.

  7. 7

    Open it up

Gently squeeze the sides so the front and the back move apart. Now there is room inside for the stuffing.

  8. 8

    Stuff it with cotton

Push small bits of soft cotton in through the gap between the ears. Add a lot. The more cotton, the softer and squishier it feels.

  9. 9

    Close the gap

Put a piece of tape over the gap and press it down well. Trim off any extra tape.

Give it a squish! Make the other squishies the same way.

PART 2 OF 2

The blind bag

  1. 10

    Cut out the bag

Print page 3 and cut out one bag along the outer edge. One page makes two bags.

  2. 11

    Glue the side strip

Put glue on the dotted strip along the side.

  3. 12

    Make a tube

Turn the sheet over. Fold both sides to the middle so the glued strip goes under the other edge. Press it flat.

  4. 13

    Close the bottom

Put glue inside the bottom pink band and press it closed.

  5. 14

    Hide a squishy inside

Slide one squishy into the bag. Don’t peek at which one!

Press the top closed and hold it for a few seconds.

  7. 16

    Cut zigzag edges

Cut small zigzags along the top and the bottom band. Now it looks like a real blind bag.

  8. 17

    Unboxing time

Make a bag for every squishy. Mix them up, line them up in a small box, and let everyone pick one.

Tear the bags open and find out who is inside.

THREE LITTLE TIPS

Make it easier.

  • Use wide clear tape. Wide packing tape covers a squishy in one or two strips, so there are fewer seams.
  • More cotton = more squish. Keep adding small bits until the squishy feels round and full.
  • Glue stick for the bags. Liquid glue makes the paper wavy. A glue stick keeps the bags neat.

A CUBI MINI MOMENT

Who is hiding in your bag?

Cubi made a bag for Mini and gave it a little shake. Mini can’t guess who is inside. Who will you hide in yours?
